In this article, you'll learn how to configure a Style guide in Lokalise Flow. A Style guide enhances the consistency of your content and translations, ensuring that Lokalise AI adheres to these guidelines during the translation process.

Setting up a style guide

You’ll be able to set up a Style guide during the initial Lokalise Flow installation. Specifically, after the Lokalise Flow project has been created, you’ll be invited to configure the Style guide and Glossary.

To begin, choose Create a new style guide.

Style guide configuration options

You'll need to adjust a few options:

  • Target audience — select the appropriate focus for your content:

    • General audience — assume a diverse audience with varying levels of knowledge. Use clear and accessible language to ensure that the content is easily understood by a wide range of readers.

    • Technical audience — assume readers with a solid understanding of SaaS (Software as a Service) and related technical concepts. Use industry-specific terminology and in-depth explanations as needed to cater to their expertise.

    • Non-technical audience — address readers who may have limited technical knowledge or familiarity with industry-specific terminology. Use plain language and avoid jargon to make the content accessible and understandable.

  • Tone of voice — choose a tone that best fits your message and audience:

    • Friendly — use a warm and approachable tone, encouraging friendly, personable interaction.

    • Empowering — encourage users with positive and confident language, boosting their confidence and motivation.

    • Informative — focus on clarity and providing information.

    • Supportive — show empathy and offer assistance where needed, providing emotional support and guidance.

    • Elegant — maintain a refined and sophisticated style, creating a sense of grace and sophistication in communication.

  • Level of formality — determine the formality level appropriate for your content:

    • Informal — used in friendly interactions, allowing for slang and colloquialisms. Suitable for informal settings.

    • Neutral — use a balanced and unbiased tone appropriate for professional interactions.

    • Formal — common in professional and academic environments, adhering to grammatical conventions and complex language, with minimal personal opinions or emotional expression.

  • General rule — guide your writing style:

    • Active voice — prefer active voice for clear and direct communication.

    • Passive voice — opt for passive voice for a more formal or objective tone.
